Route Options
Pre-researched routes from major origin cities. Drive times are airport → resort.
Alternate. Very limited flights (Breeze Airways from a few cities). Not practical for most storm chasers.
Ground Transport
Very limited rental car options at this small airport. Same SR-210 canyon concerns.
Primary airport, major Delta hub. I-80 East to I-215 South to 6200 South, east on Wasatch Blvd to SR-210 (Little Cottonwood Canyon). SR-210 is THE bottleneck — single two-lane road, steep, narrow, avalanche-prone. Storm conditions 1.5–4hrs. Road closes 80–100% of the time during major storms. Interlodge possible (all outdoor travel prohibited, Class B Misdemeanor to violate).
Ground Transport
RECOMMENDED FOR STORM CHASERS. TRAX Green Line from airport to Sandy Station, then Route 994 every 30 min from 6am. FREE with Ikon Pass or Alta season pass. No reservation needed. Skips parking nightmare, no traction law worry, no car stuck in avalanche path during interlodge. How locals do it.
$50–$100 normal, $100–$200+ surge. Return rides FROM Alta very difficult — few drivers. Ski bus far more reliable for return.
$60–$150/day for SUV. MODERATE sell-out risk, AWD/4WD sell out fast during storms. Utah Traction Law requires M+S or snowflake tires on SR-210 — verify rental car tires. Parking requires reservation ($15 Mon–Thu, $25 Fri–Sun). Lots fill by 8:30am on powder days. 4WD/AWD STRONGLY recommended.
Private shuttle SLC/Park City to Cottonwood Canyons. $100–$200 each way. Call 801-860-7544.
